About us

Book Bugs was created by Nancy Kapsalis. As the mother of 6 children, she spent countless hours reading stories to her own children. Throughout the years, Nancy spent numerous hours volunteering in elementary school setting with one-on-one remedial reading and classroom story time reading.

When Nancy re-entered the work force, she again focused her attention on children as Wish Family Liaison and Events Director for a state wish granting organization for children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses. Through her parenting experience and her work with children, she has seen how books can bring both comfort and excitement to children. Out of her passion for the joy of children’s books grew the development of Book Bugs, a literacy program for preschool and early elementary children.

Our mission is to promote creativity and literacy. Art and literature provide opportunities for self-expression, connection and exploration.

“This program is designed to open the mind and eyes of young children to the world of books. There are teachable moments in everything we do. Harvest a love for books and learning.”
